Tuesday April 9 Death and the King's Horseman

Learning Targets

I can read the text and make inferences based on what I have read (RL.11-12.1)

I can connect what I know about author and the background information on the play to think critically  about the themes presented in the text. (RL.11-12.3)

I can look at the word choice (diction) used in the text and connect it to the question for the quick write. (RL.11-12.4)

Reminders:Please bring your copies of the play to every class: (another copy below). If you are absent, you are responsible for the work.  Our last grade for this marking quarter will be the in-class writing today. You have until Friday at the close of the day to make up any late work.  The class work for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will go into the 4th quarter marking period. That means that today's classwork, your writing grade- and participation in 9th period-is your last grade for the 3rd quarter.
Missed a quiz? You may come in anytime. Just let us know which period works for you.

In class: You should have read up to page 343. The reading that you were responsible for should be apart of your answer for the quick write, you need to reference this material specifically. The quick write is written below.

Directions: collect your notebooks. If you do not have one, please take out a lined sheet of paper and write an MLA heading.
You were to have read through page 345 for today.

Writing Reminders: Please proof read! Make sure there are no fragments in your writing. Remember affect is a verb and effect is a noun.

Respond to the following prompt: Make sure your response is grammatically correct and follows language conventions.  This will be collected in 10 minutes.Copy the quote posted below:

"We never fail when we try to do our duty, we always fail when we neglect to do it." - Robert Baden-Powell

Now in five sentences,
apply this quote to what you have read yesterday. We see each character try to carry out a specific duty in the scene we looked at. Some were successful, some were not. Why do you think that is? Think about the actions of the characters.

When you have finished, turn your notebook into Ms. Parker for grading.

We will continue the play in class after you hand in the quick write.

For homework: please make sure you have read through scene 4, page 365.
