Tuesday October, 23rd - Intro to Ethan Frome

Coming up: Tonight your 20 minute responses to the prompt listed below are due. We will begin reading Ethan Frome tomorrow in class.

Objectives: Our goal is to understand one of the major themes found in Ethan Frome - how much our environment impacts our lives in contrast to our genetic make-up. We will do this by reflecting on our own beliefs in a 20 minute written response to be shared and turned in by the end of class.

Learning Objectives for Ethan Frome:

  • We can determine two or more central ideas of a text and analyze their development over the course of the text, including how they interact and build on one another to provide a complex analysis; provide an objective summary of the text.
  • We can analyze a complex set of ideas or sequence of events and explain how specific individuals, ideas, or events interact and develop over the course of the text.
  • We can determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text in which the rhetoric is particularly effective, analyzing how style and content contribute to the power, persuasiveness, or beauty of the text.

To Do List:
1) Come in and take a chrome book but DO NOT OPEN YOUR CHROMEBOOK. Take a pen out and put it on your desk as well.
2) We will head to the library to sign out your books during the first 15 minutes of class time. When we return to the room PUT YOUR TEXT DIRECTLY IN YOUR BAG.
3) We will then have a nature vs. nurture discussion.
4) Answer this question on your post-it: Which one impacts your life more, nature or nurture?
5) OPEN your google docs and ANSWER IN 3-5 COMPLETE SENTENCES WHY YOU CHOSE NATURE OR NURTURE DURING THE CLASS ACTIVITY. DO NOT FORGET YOUR MLA HEADING.
